CLEANERGIES - Tomorrow's Innovation Secured Today
The idea for Cleanergies initially came about in 2016, when Greyson Kiondo, Chairman & CEO of Petrogas Field Services Limited, wanted to expand his efforts to focus on Natural Gas and other clean energies.
Kiondo’s company (Petrogas) was already firmly entrenched as a market leader operating in the Tanzanian Oil and Gas exploration, production, and distribution industries. With offices in Dar es Salaam and Washington DC, and partnerships across four continents, Kiondo had an ideal framework in place. After all, Petrogas was involved in every level of Oil & Gas (Downstream, Midstream, and Upstream), and was well regarded as a knowledgeable and effective partner for Tanzanian businesses and foreign companies involved in fossil fuels.
However, stating “we provide Natural Gas services too” did not make sense in an operations aspect. Pulling “double duty” for oil and gas on one hand, then CNG on the other (especially when it involved reaching underserved communities in the country where no pipelines exist), proved unwieldy. What was needed was a separate entity whose principals focused on Natural Gas and clean energy, but could also rely on the expertise, equipment, training facilities, and partnerships Petrogas already had in place. .
Fast forward to 2022, and Cleanergies (also known as Nishatibora in Swahili) is making an incredible impact in Tanzania, spearheading a movement to bring CNG to every corner of the country, no matter how remote. With the backing of Petrogas and its partners, Cleanergies has the resources, expertise, and drive to see projects through from conception to fruition. We work with governmental institutions, businesses large and small, local governments, civic organizations, mining and construction operations, and anyone else interested in the incredible benefits of CNG.
Kiondo’s vision is summed up nicely in his own words:
Every country needs reliable sources of cheaper cleaner energies based on the intended use. That’s where Cleanergies comes in. In Tanzania for instance, people depend on firewood, charcoal, kerosene, electricity, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking, cooling, heating, powering and lighting.
These forms of energy are catastrophically bad for the trees, harmful to the environment,
causes illness and death from excessive carbon emissions, and are astronomically expensive
in comparison to the alternative sources of energy such as natural gas (NG), compressed natural gas
(CNG) and renewable natural gas (RNG) such as biomethane. Sadly, hundreds of thousands of Africans, mostly women and children die annually due
to indoor air pollution associated with the use of biomass for cooking.
Cleanergies makes a positive impact by bringing affordable alternative fuels directly where they are needed, and ensuring the supply never runs dry. From tapping into existing infrastructure to bringing clean fuel and storage where it’s needed via a virtual pipeline, Cleanergies ensures every Tanzanian has access to cleaner, more affordable fuel and power.
